Kent Baake is a native of Alexandria, VA and a graduate of James Madison University. He has been a successful entrepreneur for 21 years founding and operating Metro Gutter and Home Services, Inc. In 2005 he decided to focus on efficiency and solar and in 2007 opened Continuum Energy Solutions. Kent believes we are all connected and that we must each take action to make the world a better place for us and our children. He provides free educational talks on Solar and is involved in green workforce training and development. Kent is an avid mountain bike racer, a current world record holder for ultradistance road skating, and an Eagle Scout.
Julie Hickman earned her Master’s in Environmental Studies from California State Polytechnic University in 1992. She worked for the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) in the areas of water quality, hazardous waste cleanup, and international exporting of environmental technologies. Her later years at Cal/EPA were spent working with the legislature where she achieved successful passage of statewide pollution prevention legislation.
She served as the Legislative Director of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and was the founding Director of a Legislative Office for the National Audubon Society, working at the state and federal levels and in partnership with the National Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy.
Since 2005 she has been designing and managing outdoor living construction and renovation projects including flagstone patios, pools, stairs, outdoor chimneys, decks, siding, driveways, walkways, retaining walls and outdoor lighting.
As an undergraduate she studied at the Sorbonne and L’Institute d’Etudes Politique in Paris, France and graduated from Sweet Briar College where she double majored in International Relations and Economics, earning a business management certificate and the Pi Gammu Mu award in Economics.
Between college and graduate school she worked for Goldman Sachs.
She believes that a sustainable future requires both personal and corporate commitment. To that end, she offers the most innovative and efficient technologies and incentives available to achieve large-scale capture and use of solar power in Virginia, the Mid-Atlantic and beyond.
Originally from Charlotte, NC, she has lived in Virginia for nearly 14 years. She is devoted to her children, whom she enjoys greatly, and for whom she envisions a future that is bright, sustainable and peaceful.
